Joanna trained as pediatric cardiologist in the biggest pediatric cardiology department in Poland, The Memorial Hospital Child’s Health Center. She is one of the two people who developed fetal cardiology in Poland. She is now the head of the biggest fetal cardiology referral centers in Poland, as well as a perinatal cardiology consultant in the department of Neonatology and Intensive care, Medical University of Warsaw.
She was trained in fetal cardiology in Guy’s Hospital, London and Boston Children’s Hospital. She has been the director of the Fetal Cardiac Interventional Program in Poland since 2010. Together with her husband, Dr Tomasz Dangel, she setup the Perinatal Hospice, which is a very active program to support families where a decision was made to continue the pregnancy in cases of lethally ill fetuses.
She is a lecturer at many international conferences and has been the director of ISUOG international courses in fetal cardiology since 2014. She was a councilor and then treasurer of the Fetal Cardiology working Group of AEPC.
She participates in international multicenter studies including: AEPC multicenter-study of fetal critical aortic stenosis; IFCIR international multicenter registry; fetal multicenter tachycardia study (FAST Trial).
